Tuesday: It Was Good

You have already seen the first edition of the Saturday Morning Cartoons.  Welcome to the premiere of “Tuesday: It Was Good.”    Tuesday is a very unlucky day in Greek circles; because Tuesday, May 29, 1453, marks the Fall of Constantinople to an invading army from the Ottoman Empire.   The Ottoman Empire lasted until 1923.  Yes. You read my mind; the Ottoman Empire was around the last time the Cubs won a World Series.

However, in Judaism, Tuesday is thought to be lucky because in the first chapter of Genesis, the words “it was good” is written twice about the second day.

Tuesday is actually named after the Norse God Tyr, who is associated with law and heroic glory.

Speaking of heroes:

1.  #samstrong

The 17 year-old girl from Mt. Olivet, Ky was a senior at Robertson County High School.  On January 5, 2014, she passed from cancer.  Keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.  She will be missed by many.

2.  NCC Boys Basketball

The NCC boys basketball team is the unanimous #1 in the Enquirer coaches poll.  Even more importantly, they are #1 in the 9th region according to the 859sports.com Computer Rankings.  The T’breds will be tested when they host rival Newport tonight.

3.  Mason County Boys Basketball

The (1) Royals (12-1) travel up the AA highway to Alexandria tonight to face the (3) Campbell County Camels (11-2).  The Camels are in the midst of a four game winning streak and this game would be all the more important but for the ridiculousness of the blind draw.  The Camels squeaked by (8) Brossart on Saturday night, 52-50.    The Camels look to validate their ranking after a 19 point loss to (2) Cov Cath (at St. X Cincinnati tonight) on December 17. The Royals only loss was to Lincoln County, 51-49 on December 28.

4.  The Norse Women Host Georgetown (KY) Tonight at Bank of KY Arena

The Norse (8-6), have played a very strong schedule (UK, Ohio, Marquette, Wright State, Cincinnati, Loyola, and Akron) and likely get the win tonight against the Bulldogs.  The 2012, 8th region player of the year, Rianna Gayheart (Owen County High) has started 4 games and has registered the 5th most minutes for NKU thus far this season.  Bank of Kentucky Arena is one of the nicest venues in the country.

5.  Lapham and Gresham

Last night on WLW, Dave Lapham continued his assault on Jermaine Gresham’s manhood.  If you remember back in December the two had a brief on-air spat.  This time Lap went nuclear: “Ryan Hewitt will give you more as a football player than Jermaine Gresham”.

6.  Baseball Hall of Fame Vote

7.  The 2015 Grammys

The Grammys are around the corner (February 8) and as we here at 859sports.com continue to ad and upgrade, we will be including some sections related to music and movies occassionally just to keep it fresh and really just to influence the world with our tastes.  What you are seeing and reading here right now is just the preseason, we haven’t even had our grand opening yet.  Big things are coming soon.  Until then you should check out 2015 Grammy nominee Sturgil Simpson who is from Breathitt County, KY and grew up in Versailles.  He don’t write songs about pick ups, moonlight, and dixie cups.  He’s an adult.
