859 Sports Game Of The Week: Campbell County at Pendleton County (All-Time Series Is 41-41)

On Tuesday, defending 10th Region Champion, Campbell County (15-6), will take a 19 minute bus ride south on U.S. 27 to hook up with the Pendleton County Wildcats (8-12) who have lost their last four games by a combined margin of 13 points.  The Wildcats have held games close despite being without their second leading scorer, Dontaie Allen, who suffered a wrist injury back on December 29th.

The Camels are led by Deondre Jackson (17.2 ppg), Blake Losey (12.2 ppg), and Matt Wilson (13.9 ppg, 11 rpg). As a team, Campbell County is shooting 49.4% from the field and 40.7% from 3-point range. The Camels have not lost when scoring more than 68 points and have a scoring margin advantage of 13.2 ppg over their opponents. When the Camels win they have a tendency to win big.  In each of the Camel’s losses they have struggled to make shots.  The Camels beat Highlands 73-46 on Thursday night.

The Wildcats have 9 different players that have played in at least 17 games this season. The leading scorer for the Wildcats is sophomore Michael Antrobus, who is averaging 14.6 points per game. Hunter Leah is the force inside for Pendleton County, averaging 9.6 points per game and 9.3 rebounds. The Wildcats are streaky shooters, shooting 41.2% as a team from the field.  Pendleton County last played on Friday night, losing to Mason County 77-71.

Both teams have head coaches that are now coaching at their alma mater. Pendleton County Head Coach, Keaton Belcher is a 2005 graduate of PCHS and played college basketball at Belmont University. Coach Belcher is in his first year at Pendleton County. Campbell County’s Head coach Aric Russell is a 1989 graduate of CCHS. Russell has been the Camel’s head basketball coach since 2010. Prior to coming to Campbell County, Russell was the head Coach at Newport for nine seasons, where he won the 9th region All “A” championship in 2009.
