Mick Cronin is Cincinnati. Irish Catholic, seemingly mild mannered and always polite with an underlying layer that might just reach up and box your ears. Cronin has that bubbling rage underneath the exterior that is the mark of a Bearcat basketball coach. We have watched seasons of frustration and success during his rebuilding of a once nationally prominent basketball program. If Cincinnati basketball doesn’t make you want to drink, then it will probably make your head explode.
Cronin has been sidelined for the rest of the season due to an unruptured brain aneurysm. His prescription to get better: “An important part of Mr. Cronin’s treatment and recovery includes rest, medication and keeping a normal blood pressure.” Those will likely be tough orders to follow for the Cronin we have watched compile a 239-134 record over the last twelve years between Murray State and UC.
In 2009, Cronin went through a divorce. Divorce is one of the most stressful events of a person’s life, ranking up on the list with the loss of a parent or child. Coaching UC basketball is probably like number 5 on the list.
We hope Coach Cronin gets better real fast and probably the best thing anyone can do for him right now is to make their friggin free throws and get their heads out of their arse on defense.
